This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) outlines how we collect, use, and disclose personal information. The policy is applicable worldwide, and it also describes rights you may have to control our use of personal information and how to exercise those rights. This Policy is incorporated into and is subject to the RapidSOS Terms of Use. Capitalized terms used but not defined in this Policy have the meaning given to them in the RapidSOS Terms of Use.

As used in this Privacy Policy, “personal information” means any information that identifies, relates to, describes, is capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular individual or household. It may include, but is not limited to, name, email address, postal or other physical address, credit or debit card number, title, and other information linked to a persistent identifier assigned or linkable to an individual.

This policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in RapidSOS’ operational practices or regulatory requirements. If we make any material changes, we will post an updated Policy to our Site and provide you with notice via reasonable means, such as by emailing individuals who have registered with us and/or providing a notice on the RapidSOS website. We encourage you to periodically review this page for the latest information on our privacy practices.


Emergency-Related Personal Information

RapidSOS collects personal information to enhance emergency-related and emergency-preparedness-related communications between Emergency Service Providers and members of the public. (By Emergency Service Providers, we mean safety or emergency response providers like 911 providers and campus safety officials.) We collect certain information in connection with offering our Services, which we call information “Emergency-Related Personal Information.”

We collect Emergency-Related Personal Information from several sources, including directly from Emergency Service Providers, from Computer-Aided Dispatch System providers, and from other organizations that work with or assist Emergency Service Providers.

We also collect Emergency-Related Personal Information from certain cell phones and other devices (“Connected Devices”). RapidSOS provides its Services to application, platform, operating system, and software developers (our “Partners”) who build RapidSOS functionality into their applications, platforms, operating systems, or software (“Partner Software”) in order to better help device users connect with Emergency Service Providers in an emergency. “Connected Devices” are those on Partner Software is installed and functioning. If you call 911 or place another emergency communication from a Connected Device, RapidSOS will attempt to automatically transmit information from your device that may assist the Emergency Service Provider in directing appropriate and timely assistance to you. This process will involve the collection and temporary retention of Emergency-Related Personal Information.

RapidSOS collects Emergency-Related Personal Information from a Connected Device only when that device is used to contact an Emergency Services Provider. We provide the Service to our Partners pursuant to agreements strictly controlling our collection and use of Emergency-Related Personal Information. We retain Emergency Related Personal Information only for the brief period during which it might be of use to Emergency Service Providers, except in rare cases where we are legally required to retain the data for a longer period of time. Our systems are designed to automatically delete all Emergency-Related Personal Information we collect within 12 hours of collection.

Non-Emergency Personal Information

RapidSOS also collects personal information from and about visitors to our website, individuals who have asked for information about our Service, and prospective RapidSOS customers (“Non-Emergency Personal Information”). We do not collect Non-Emergency Personal Information from Connected Devices, unless you use a Connected Device to intentionally interact with RapidSOS by visiting our Site or otherwise. Put differently, when a Partner builds Rapid SOS functionality into one of their products, we don’t use that functionality to collect any Non-Emergency Personal Information.

We collect Non-Emergency Personal Information from you only if you:

-visit our Site,

-sign up to receive emails marketing our Services,

-interact with our marketing materials, such as online advertising, or through our Partner Software,

-otherwise actively provide personal information to us.

When you visit our Site or interact with our emails or marketing material, we may collect Non-Emergency Personal Information only:

-If you actively give it to us (for example, if you sign up for our newsletter or ask us to send you information about our Services)

-From visitors to our Site, using common, industry-standard technologies (like cookies)

Emergency-Related Personal Information

We may collect the following categories of personal information from or about you in connection with enhancing emergency-related and emergency-preparedness-related communications between Emergency Service Providers and members of the public:

-Information that directly identifies you or your household, such as your name, physical address, email address, and phone number.

-Your use of the Service, if you have a RapidSOS account.

-Health information, medical information, and any other information that you have on your Connected Device and that you have indicated (through settings on your device, device accounts, or otherwise) should be shared with emergency responders.

-Precise geolocation of a Connected Device, where we have received an indication that an emergency exists.

-Information about a Connected Device’s configuration, network, and internet connection, such as IP address(es), MAC address, other device ID (UDID), device type, operating system type and version, and client version.

Non-Emergency Personal Information

We may collect the following categories of Non-Emergency Personal Information from you or about you in connection with offering our Site and marketing our Services:

-Information that directly identifies you or your household, such as your name, physical address, email address, and phone number.

-Information about your device, network, and internet connection, such as your IP address(es), MAC address, other device ID (UDID), device type, operating system type and version, and client version.

-Information about your use of our Site, such as the pages you most commonly visit.

-Information regarding your interaction with email messages we send to you, such as whether you opened, clicked on, or forwarded a message.


We may use all of the categories of personal information that we collect to operate, maintain, enhance and provide all features of the Service, to provide services and information that you request, and to respond to comments and questions and otherwise to provide support to users. For example, we use personal information to:

-Supplement the standard 9-1-1 system functionality with more accurate geo-location information.

-Transmit potentially life-saving health information.

-Authenticate registered Emergency Service Providers who access the Service.

-Contact individuals who have requested additional information or updates on the Services.

-Provide notice regarding changes to our terms, conditions, and policies.

-Conduct quality assurance and for research and development purposes, such as data security, improved website navigation and content display, fraud prevention, data analysis, audits, developing new products, producing predictive data models, improving our Services, identifying usage trends, and determining the effectiveness of our communications.

We may use Non-Emergency Personal Information as described above and for research, advertising, and analytics purposes.


We may share any category of personal information as we believe to be necessary or appropriate: (a) under applicable law; (b) as required by law, including legal process from public and government authorities (including those outside your country of residence); (c) to enforce our terms and conditions; (d) to protect our operations or those of any of our affiliates; (e) to protect the rights, privacy, safety, or property of any person; or (f) to allow us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain.

In other circumstances, we may disclose Emergency-Related Personal Information only as reasonably necessary to provide our Services and to comply with applicable law, and we may disclose Non-Emergency Personal Information for reasonable business purposes. To these ends, we may disclose your personal information to the following categories of third parties:

-Emergency Service Providers. We share personal information with Emergency Service Providers in order to enhance emergency response, facilitate communication during an emergency, and facilitate emergency-preparedness-related communication.

-Our service providers. Our service providers may receive access to personal information as part of helping to offer our Services and operate RapidSOS. Our service providers are contractually required to keep this information confidential and secure and are prohibited from using this data for any purpose other than carrying out the services that they are performing for us.

-Our Partners (personal information collected from Connected Devices only). If you are the user of a Connected Device, your device has an app, platform, operating system, or piece of software installed on it that is offered by one of our Partners, and that incorporates RapidSOS functionality. When we collect Emergency-Related Personal Information from a Connected Device, we are collecting that information on behalf of the relevant Partner, pursuant to contracts that require us to safeguard this information, and to only use it in order to provide our Services. As with all personal information collected from your device by or on behalf of the Partner, the Partner may access, use, share, or otherwise process your Emergency-Related Personal Information in accordance with the Partner’s own privacy policy. We do not control our Partner’s use of any personal information that they directly or indirectly collect as part of offering their app, platform, operating system, or software. If you have questions about our Partner's privacy practices, we will refer you to our Partner.

-Entity related to corporate reorganization. We may disclose personal information in connection with any reorganization, merger, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer, or other disposition of all or any portion of our business, assets, or stock (including in connection with any bankruptcy or similar proceedings).

RapidSOS will not sell your Personal Information.


We may place third-party buttons on our Site that allow you to easily share or integrate RapidSOS materials into a third-party service (such as Facebook “like” or “share” buttons). If you click on such a button, you are voluntarily and affirmatively interacting with that third-party service, and you may be directly sharing personal information with that third party. Any personal information collected by such a third-party service is governed entirely by the relevant third party’s own data collection, use, and disclosure policies, not the RapidSOS Privacy Policy.


 We do our best to offer individuals with choices and control over their own personal information. You may ask us for:

-Access. You can request more information about RapidSOS’ processing of your personal information during the previous 12 months. Your request can include:

-the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collected from you,

-why we collected that information,

-the categories of third parties from which we received personal information about you, and/or

-the categories of third parties with whom we shared that information.

 -Portability.  You can request a copy of your personal information that we have collected about you in a machine-readable format. You can also request that we transmit the data to another entity where technically feasible.

-Deletion.  You can request that we erase some or all of your personal information from our systems. Please be aware that we may not be required or able to delete all of the personal Information in RapidSOS’ possession. For example, we will continue to retain personal information that we use to provide our Services to you (unless you wish to cancel), is related to preserving the security and functionality of our Services, is necessary to protect our legal rights, and that we use internally for other legitimate business purposes that are consistent with the reason why you provided us with the personal information and reasonable expectations.

If you reside in California or outside of the United States, RapidSOS may be legally required to comply with your request. Where not required by law, RapidSOS will voluntarily honor such a request if it determines the request is reasonable and compliance would not involve disproportionate cost or effort.

Under certain circumstances, we will not be able to fulfill your request, such as if it prevents us from completing a transaction you initiated, interferes with our regulatory obligations, affects legal matters including a user’s rights to data contained in their account, we cannot verify your identity, or compliance with your request is not legally required and would involve disproportionate cost or effort. But in any event, we will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe and provide you with an explanation.

The Service may contain features or links to websites and services provided by third parties. Any information you provide on third-party sites or services is provided directly to the operators of such services and is subject to those operators’ policies, if any, governing privacy and security, even if accessed through the Service. We are not responsible for the content or privacy and security practices and policies of third-party sites or services to which links or access are provided through the Service. We encourage you to learn about third parties’ privacy and security policies before providing them with information.


Protecting the privacy of young children is especially important. Our Site is a general audience site not directed to children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 16 without obtaining parental consent. If you are under 16 years of age, then please do not use or access the Service at any time or in any manner. If we learn that personal information has been collected on the Service from persons under 16 years of age and without verifiable parental consent, then we will take the appropriate steps to delete this information. If you are a parent or guardian and discover that your child under 16 years of age has obtained an account on the Service, then you may alert us at and request that we delete that child’s personal information from our systems.


We will retain your data for as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy and in accordance with applicable law. As mentioned above, all personal information collected from Connected Devices is automatically deleted from our systems twelve hours after the Connected Device was used to contact an Emergency Services Provider.
